Kybella® Double Chin Treatment in Bellevue

Permanent, Non-Surgical Results

A double chin is one of the most stubborn areas of the face — resistant to diet, exercise, and nearly everything else. Kybella® changes that. As Bellevue’s only double board-certified plastic surgeon personally performing Kybella® injections, Dr. Kristopher Day delivers a level of precision and anatomical understanding that is simply not available at general med spas. Kybella® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment containing synthetic deoxycholic acid — the same molecule your body naturally produces to break down dietary fat. When injected beneath the chin, it permanently destroys fat cells, gradually revealing a cleaner jawline and more defined profile. No surgery. No general anesthesia. No extended recovery. Just a series of short, carefully administered in-office sessions with permanent results. If you have moderate to severe submental fat — what most people call a ‘double chin’ — and you’ve been searching for a non-surgical solution you can trust, Kybella® at Pacific Sound Plastic Surgery may be the answer. Call us today at (425) 818-8991 to schedule your consultation.

What Is Kybella®?

Kybella® (deoxycholic acid) is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment specifically cleared for improving the appearance of moderate to severe submental fullness — more commonly known as a double chin. Approved by the FDA in 2015 after extensive clinical trials, Kybella® has become one of the most popular non-surgical body contouring treatments for the chin and jaw area.

The active ingredient, synthetic deoxycholic acid, is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, deoxycholic acid disrupts the cell membrane of fat cells, causing them to rupture and be gradually eliminated through the body’s natural metabolic processes. Once those fat cells are destroyed, they cannot regenerate — which means the results are permanent.

Unlike surgical liposuction or neck liposuction (which require anesthesia, incisions, and recovery time), Kybella® is a walk-in, walk-out injectable treatment. Unlike CoolSculpting — which uses controlled cooling to reduce fat — Kybella® works through targeted chemical disruption of fat cells, with a mechanism of action that has been rigorously studied in over 20 clinical trials involving more than 2,600 patients worldwide.

At Pacific Sound Plastic Surgery, Dr. Day performs every Kybella® injection personally. This matters. Improper injection technique can lead to nerve injury, uneven results, or prolonged swelling. Dr. Day’s training as a double board-certified plastic surgeon with craniofacial fellowship expertise means he approaches each treatment with an understanding of facial anatomy that most injectors simply do not have. The result: predictable, natural-looking outcomes with a significantly lower risk of complications.

"Dr. Day is excellent with injections. I received facial filler treatment from him and he made the entire process comfortable and as painless as it gets for injections. He explained everything and answered my questions thoroughly. Along with numbing cream etc, he uses a small face massage device as he's injecting to distract the nerves which helped A LOT — I've never had a physician do that for filler injections before and I wish more did."

Am I a Good Candidate for a Kybella®?

Kybella® works best for adults who have localized fat under the chin that hasn’t responded to diet or exercise, and who prefer a non-surgical solution. During a personal consultation, Dr. Day evaluates your anatomy, the degree of skin laxity in the neck area, and whether Kybella® or an alternative approach — such as neck liposuction — is most appropriate for your goals.

Not Sure If You're a Candidate?

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Day to discuss your goals and options.

Your Kybella® Journey

Step 1 — Your Consultation

Your journey begins with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Day. He’ll assess your submental fullness, examine your skin laxity and neck anatomy, review your medical history, and discuss your desired outcome. Together, you’ll determine whether Kybella® is the right treatment or whether an alternative like neck liposuction would better achieve your goals. This is the conversation — not a sales pitch.

Step 2: Treatment Planning

Dr. Day maps the injection points beneath your chin using a precise anatomical grid, ensuring even distribution of the medication while protecting surrounding nerves and tissues. The number of injections per session typically ranges from 20 to 50 small injections, depending on the amount and distribution of fat.

Step 3: The Treatment Session

After topical numbing is applied, the injections are administered directly into the submental fat. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild stinging or burning during and immediately after injection. Each session takes approximately 15–20 minutes. Most patients complete 2–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, though the exact number depends on your individual anatomy and goals.

Step 4 — Recovery Timeline

Day 1-3

What to Expect

Swelling, bruising, and tenderness are normal and expected. Most patients can return to work the same day or the following day.

Days 4–14

What to Expect

Swelling gradually subsides. The area may feel firm or numb — this is part of the treatment response as fat cells are being broken down.

Weeks 4–6

What to Expect

Visible reduction in submental fullness becomes apparent. This is when your next session, if needed, would typically be scheduled.

Final Results

What to Expect

Full results are typically visible 4–6 weeks after your final session. The destroyed fat cells are gone permanently and will not return.

"He's good at what he does, I got Botox and lip filler. He's very fast, and massages very good to get the filler to move where it needs to be! Can't wait to see the final result once the swelling goes down. Thank you!!!!"

What Results Can I Expect from a Kybella®?

Most patients see noticeable improvement after 2–3 Kybella® sessions, with full results visible approximately 4–6 weeks after completing their treatment series. The improvements include:

  • Significant reduction in submental fat volume
  • A cleaner, more defined jawline and chin profile
  • A slimmer overall facial appearance in both frontal and profile views
  • A more youthful and proportional neck-to-chin contour

"This is the best Botox experience I've had around Seattle. Scheduling is easy, with good availability, and Dr. Day is always on time and efficient. He's considerate and thorough in explaining treatment options and supportive of individual decision-making."

Kybella® Cost in Bellevue

Kybella® treatment cost is highly individualized and depends on several factors: the degree of submental fullness, the number of sessions required, and the total number of injections per session. Why Choose Dr. Kristopher Day for Your Kybella®?

Most med spas in Bellevue and Seattle offer Kybella® — but most of them have it administered by a nurse injector, a PA, or an aesthetician. At Pacific Sound Plastic Surgery, Kybella® is always performed by Dr. Kristopher Day personally.

Why does that matter? The space beneath the chin contains critical anatomical structures — including the marginal mandibular nerve, the cervical branch of the facial nerve, and key lymphatic pathways. Improper injection depth or placement can lead to temporary numbness, facial muscle weakness, or uneven fat reduction. Dr. Day’s formal training as a double board-certified plastic surgeon — supplemented by his craniofacial fellowship — gives him a precise understanding of submental anatomy that most injectors do not have.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Kybella® sessions will I need?

Most patients require between 2 and 4 treatment sessions to achieve their desired results, though up to 6 sessions may be recommended for more significant submental fullness. Dr. Day will give you a realistic estimate during your consultation based on your anatomy and goals. Sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to allow full treatment response between visits.

Most patients experience a mild to moderate stinging or burning sensation during and immediately after the injections. Dr. Day applies topical numbing cream prior to treatment and uses distraction techniques during injection to maximize your comfort. Any discomfort typically resolves within a few minutes of completing the session.

Swelling, bruising, and tenderness beneath the chin are expected and normal following each session — this is a sign that the treatment is working. Most patients return to work and regular activities the same day or the following day. Significant social events should be scheduled at least 2 weeks after a session to allow swelling to resolve.

Yes. Once fat cells are destroyed by deoxycholic acid, they are permanently eliminated and cannot regenerate. Maintaining a stable weight will help preserve your results, but the fat cells that are treated will not return.

Kybella® is approved for adults 18 and older. There is no upper age limit, though Dr. Day will evaluate skin laxity — patients with significant loose neck skin may be better candidates for surgical neck contouring rather than Kybella® alone. The ideal candidate is at or near a healthy, stable weight with isolated submental fat as their primary concern.

Kybella® is a non-surgical option best suited for mild to moderate submental fat in patients who want to avoid surgery. Neck liposuction is a surgical procedure that can address a larger volume of fat in a single session with more dramatic results. Dr. Day offers both options and will recommend the approach most appropriate for your anatomy during your consultation.

No. Kybella® targets submental fat specifically — it does not tighten skin. Patients with mild skin laxity may see some improvement in the appearance of the neck as fat volume decreases, but patients with moderate to severe loose skin may require additional treatments such as a neck lift for optimal results.

Some patients notice a visible improvement after their first session, but optimal results typically develop over 4 to 12 weeks following the completion of the full treatment series. Patience is important — the fat elimination process is gradual as your body metabolizes the destroyed cells over time.

Kybella® is FDA-approved and supported by an extensive clinical trial record. Common side effects include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and redness at the injection site. Rare but serious side effects can occur with improper injection technique, which is one reason Dr. Day recommends having Kybella® performed only by a qualified, trained injector with deep anatomical knowledge.
